Vinicio Momoli returns to the "Josè Manuel Rotella" Photographic Center in Torrelavega with a new and different work. The stylistic assumptions have changed in the four years separating the two exhibitions, so much so that to some it might seem that he intentionally adapted them to two very different environmental characteristics. If in the first the formal regularity of the pieces, whose rigorous geometry was highlighted by the light that some of them had incorporated, forming repetitive series and creating very contrasting environments in the dark rooms of that house, in this second exhibition a clarity is imposed that combines very good with the brightness and cleanliness of the photography center rooms.
Furthermore, this happy coincidence is not defined as an exposure strategy. Only, it is the result of four years of difference, four years of creative evolution and a space-time coincidence.
Words in the air is an exhibition of recent works by Vinicio Momoli. Works which, for those who have not witnessed the artist's evolution in these four years, represent a change that is very different from the first ones. On the one hand, Momoli has incorporated a new base material, transparent methacrylate, and on the other, without leaving previous materials such as rubber, it has totally changed the form and content of works and installations. The formal rigor of his minimalist spirit remains intact, but is expressed in a more expressive and colorful painting on the back of the methacrylate sheets, and in a greater freedom of form in his more irregular semi-relief wall objects, in which the rubber of primary colors and its quality and its textures take on a strong plastic presence, which can be said to be in full foray into the territory of the freest and most original painting, but above all very current in its experimentation with industrial plastic materials and very pure flat colours. In those methacrylate paintings, halfway between installation and painting, lifted from the walls as if placed on the ground or on the wall, horizontal or vertical, versatile in arrangement, Momoli offers us a graphic journey of color lines that intersect and interact and that I suggest graffitti, urban or building plans, like children's games and even more realistic figures that intersperse with those, thus accentuating the evident "indicative" meaning that permeates everything. Lover of the plasticity of materials, of their qualities, Momoli shows us a commendable creative ability not only by recalling old themes of the avant-garde of the past century, but also by subscribing to the most abstract recent, with a truly exemplary sense of form and color.
Singular precisely because of its exquisite sense of the beauties of shape and color. Now it is the internal light of color and matter that imbues everything with the natural clarity of simple things. Natura simplicibus gaudet.
