Vinicio Momoli can leave you perplexed. He himself does not deny it. His challenge is also this, however. He works rubber, and he does it with meticulousness and conviction: he cuts it, assembles the pieces, overlaps them and combines them by analogy of color or contrast. He is pleased with the changing chromaticity of this humble and pasty material; he indulges himself with the different graininess, of which he discovers the multifaceted expressive values. His minimalist game starts from rubber and ends in it, also interacting with plexiglass, glass or wood Tokio, 2014 Gomma, cm. 140 x 95 as supports. Observing the essential language, that touch of provocation in the choice of materials, the rigorous scansion that can also transform into the softness of a hint of sensual forms, one can ask whether the inspiration is more informal, minimalism, dadaism. .. Therein lies the mistake. Just focus on the works. Momoli's silent response passes through the mental perception of color and spatial combinations obtained through materials. Everything is texture and spatiality. Everything is played out in the dialogue between Piccolo Rosso, 2014 Gomma, cm. 60 x 40 the eye, the proximity and distances that plastic and colors evoke in relation to those who observe them and in their mutual search, fusion or clash. The final embrace loses the level of geometric rigorism and becomes an amused and, more or less voluntarily, provocative new horizon. Perplexity is replaced by the discovery of an invention.
